A police officer in Thailand has more than most to thank Samsung for, after his smartphone reportedly saved his life, after he was shot by a fleeing suspect.

Pol Maj Gen Sophon Thonglorm from the Mae Rim police in Chiang Mai was shot by the suspect last week, but the bullet impacted first with the Galaxy Note 2, which it then passed through, but at such a reduced velocity that the bullet only caused a none-fatal injury to the officer.

The phone of course did not come out of the situation alive, but as the story went viral on social network sites, Samsung Thailand heard about it and have given the officer a Galaxy S6 replacement for free, and have paid for him to travel to Bangkok to pick up his new device.

When asked what he thought about the generous offer from Samsung, the officer replied, “I am happy that Samsung will give me a new phone”.
