The weekend´s carnival parade in Mérida, the capital of the autonomous community of Extremadura, was delayed in its departure after the balcony of a property collapsed, falling onto spectators waiting in the street for the passage of the parade.

The 112 emergency coordination centre reported that four people were injured in the incident and were taken to the Hospital of Mérida, where they were said to be in “good condition”.

The parade continued as normal, albeit slightly later than advertised.
