In a symbolic switching on ceremony this week, the city of Torrevieja leapt into the future of piped energy, as power company Gas Natural Cegas began supplying homes direct through their new network.
At 11:30 on Tuesday morning the big switch on was made by the Mayor of the city, Eduardo Dolón, who turned the key at the site on calle Mar Jónico in the area of Barrio de San Roque.
The CEO of Gas Natural, Roberto Cámara, along with other officials and delegates, were all present at the ceremony.
With investment to the tune of seven million euro, the 45 kilometre distribution network aims to connect some 96,800 homes and businesses in the next two years, providing cheaper, cleaner and more efficient energy to the residents of the municipality.
Overall, the network will connect Orihuela, Redován, Benejúzar, Algorfa, Benijófar, Los Montesinos and Torrevieja, with Dolón explaining how subscribing to the supply could save up to 40% on a household energy bill.
