Officers from the Guardia Civil have arrested five people, two women and three men, all of Romanian nationality and aged between 21 and 36 years of age, on suspicion of having committed nearly 50 robberies, intimidation and thefts in the provinces of Alicante, Murcia, León, La Coruña, Sevilla and Castellón.

An investigation was launched in summer of last year, which has resulted in the arrest of the suspects, after officers identified similar characteristics in numerous reports.

After several months of intensive research, the officers were able to identify and locate the alleged perpetrators in the Mil Viviendas area of Alicante.

As the officers raided the home in Alicante, the occupants were seen to throw a bag from a window, which was found to contain various items of jewellery. Once recovered, of the 40 or so items in the bag, the investigators identified pieces listed as stolen from properties in various locations, including Torrevieja and Orihuela.

In addition, the officers seized three vehicles, mobile phones and electronic equipment, allegedly all stolen, as well as documentation relating to the official and legal owners.

The detainees were all presented to the courts in Torrevieja.
