The 112 emergency coordination centre managed 1,248 incidents across the region on New Year´s Eve, between 20:00 on the 31st of December and 08:00 on New Year´s Day, considerably higher than last year, when 974 incidents were managed, an increase of 28% across the three provinces.
Of total incidents this year, 485 were from the province of Alicante, 118 were in Castellon 118 and 606 in the province of Valencia, with the remaining 39 incidents occurring in an undetermined location.
However, the good news is that the night passed without any major incident, but the majority of calls were “health” related, with 694 cases, or 55.61% of the total, followed by public safety incidents, where 301 cases accounted for 24.12% of all incidents, 49 were relating to fire and 16 were traffic management.
The Valencia police had a higher presence than normal across the entire province this year, with a total of 96 officially licensed extended events in bars, restaurants or public institutions, 42 in Valencia, 23 across Alicante and 31 in Castellón, with a total of 23 cases being opened by the police against venues who failed to comply with the laws or their licenses, another drop from the 30 recorded cases last year.
Most of these cases were relating to infringements of opening hour rules, not providing adequate admission controls and failing to check for identification.
