Operating in front-line and emergency situations, ready to response, react and save lives, the dogs of the Guardia Civil have a strenuous, active life, and their food must be carefully balanced to ensure they are at the peak of performance.
That is the thinking behind the Minister of the Interior, Jorge Fernández Díaz, announcing that the tender for private companies to provide their food has been put to consultation, with 419,716.16 euro on offer to the successful company.
Bidders have until the 27th of January to submit their offer, which must include at least two tests at independent laboratories chosen by the Guardia Civil to ensure the quality of the product, and must offer all of the quality requirements that the corps require.
Once awarded, the 650 dogs in service within the Guardia civil will have their 645 euro budgeted meals to enjoy, or around 1.75 euro per day.
