Though shielded from the eyes of the eager children waiting to see Father Christmas, the real identity of the bearded man has been revealed in a new promotional video.

A long line of children wait to see Santa, before another man quietly whispers in his ear that he has to leave. Waving to the children, Santa calmly walks away, through the doors of the shopping centre he had been appearing at, and starts to gradual removal of the clothes that make him one great hero, to reveal one of another type.

For underneath the red coat and trouser suit, behind that big beard, lies a man who has to now go about his duties of protecting and serving the rest of society, as the removal of the costume reveals he is a uniformed member of the Spanish National Police.

The video has been posted on their YouTube account as a Christmas greeting from the CNP, accompanied by the message that the “Spanish National Police wishes you a very Merry Christmas and the best for 2014. Peace, happiness and safety”.

Always ready to serve and protect, and always close to you and yours, “Siempre cerca de ti y de los tuyos. Feliz Navidad”, Merry Christmas.
