Members of the Guardia Civil have arrested the driver of a 40 tonne articulated truck, after stopping the vehicle as it “zigzagged” along the A- motorway near Totana.
Upon stopping the vehicle and suspecting the driver had been drinking, the officers requested the driver carried out a breathalyser test, which showed him to be 8 times over the permitted limit.
In a statement, the traffic police reported that the arrest came about after witnessing the vehicle persistently entering the hard shoulder, then moving back to straddle the next, left hand lane, impeding the passage ov other road users who were unable to pass the truck.
When subjected to a breath test, the truck driver tested positive with 1.21 milligrams per litre of breath, when the rate allowed for commercial drivers is 0.15.
The driver of the truck, which was en route from Albacete to Almería, had been driving for an hour and a half from the start of the journey, and was arrested as the perpetrator of an alleged offense of driving under the influence of alcohol and will be brought to court for a quick hearing within the next 15 days.
