Motorists who use the AP-7 motorway may be all too aware that junction 763 indicates the route to leave the highway for “La Zenia Urbanizaciones”, very shortly a more generic name is set to appear, with the signs set to be replaced with “Orihuela costa-Urbanización La Zenia”.
The move has come after Orihuela´s councillor for tourism, Rosa Martínez of the PSOE, made an application for a change to the signs with the Ministry of Development. In a statement, Martínez said that the company who look after the Alicante to Cartagena motorway will, “proceed in the near future to modify signalling existing at exit 763 in both directions, replacing the destination with the name to include Orihuela Costa”.
However, although the orihuela costa may finally be on the map at that point, they rejected an application for the same at junction 768, signposted “Dehesa de Campoamor”, as that route, “does not refer exclusively to the nuclei population located within the municipality of Orihuela, but also refers to other towns of neighbouring municipalities that are almost closer to said exit than those developments located in the municipality of Orihuela”.
Before you get too excited at the possibility of seeing the new signs, it should be pointed out that there will be a cost if you do, as junction 763 is on the toll-payment stretch of road, although the toll price has been reduced once again for the winter period, so you have until Easter if you want to save on your tour of motorway signs.
