A 34 year old serving police officer has died whilst attending target practice in the National Police training academy at Ávila.
Rubén Bregón Casado, who was stationed in the Comisaría de Puente de Vallecas in Madrid, died on Monday. The cause of his death is said to have been due to a coronary obstruction caused by a congenital defect.
Reports from witnesses say that he collapsed whilst on his way to shooting practice and, despite attempts to resuscitate the officer, his colleagues could do nothing to save his life.
His body was transferred, at the request of his family, to his home city of Valladolid, where his funeral will be held on Wednesday.
In a statement, The national police Academy said that they wish to express their deep regret and held an intimate act in memoriam with the presence of all its staff and students, in recognition of an outstanding and dedicated police officer.
