So far, some 582 families have applied for a scholarship for school supplies for children 3 to 5 years in the municipality of Orihuela, according to the Councillor for Education, Rosa Martíinez of the PSOE. A total of 16 applicants did not meet the criteria, but most of those were administrative or documentation failings, for which the council team are looking to remedy.
The education department has 50,000 euro allocated for assistance, the same amount as last year´s budget, when they received 747 requests, who each took 74 euro as their share. As the qualifying applicants are lower this year, which many hope is yet another sign of recovery, the amount awarded to each family will be greater.
Whilst making the announcement, Martínez also reminded college students looking for scholarship that they have until the 21st of November to submit their details.
The scholarships will award 100 or 75 euro per month for Orihuela college students, depending on the type of course they are attending and the location, which is payable a maximum of eight instalments .
Last year, 22 scholarships were granted to students registered in Orihuela, who each received between 300 and 600 euro for the entire course , for a total of 9,925 euro, the students studying in countries such as Portugal, UK, Ireland, Germany, Turkey, Norway, Italy, Poland and France.
